Jack Del Rio was born on April 4, 1963, and is now a football coach and former professional linebacker. He was a football star at USC, where he was named to the All-American team. Del Rio had a multi-year NFL career after being draughted by the Saints in 1985. His coaching career took off from there; he was head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders, among others. He is now a senior adviser at Wisconsin, where he most recently worked.

Former NFL head coach and current Wisconsin football team senior advisor Jack Del Rio has opted to step down after his arrest for OWI. The crash happened at around 5:00 in the morning on Friday in Madison, Wisconsin, when Del Rio’s car went into a yard, wrecked a fence and hit a street sign. Del Rio was seen by the police to be walking away from the scene, showing indications of impairment, when they arrived. For this initial offence, he was apprehended after admitting to driving the automobile.
During a news conference on Monday, Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell discussed the situation and confirmed that Del Rio intends to step down. Since this is a trying situation for everyone, Fickell stressed the significance of owning up to one’s mistakes. After a long career in the NFL, during which he was head coach for the Oakland Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Del Rio made his first foray into college football in August, joining the coaching staff at Wisconsin.
Del Rio was the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders for four years until his departure in the middle of the 2023 season, before taking over at Wisconsin. He has coached in the NFL for nearly a decade, during which time his teams have gone 93–94. He played collegiate football at USC and then went on to have a stellar career as a linebacker from 1985–1995.
The Wisconsin Badgers are in a tough spot right now, with Del Rio’s resignation coming as they prepare to play No. 1 Oregon in their next game. They are 5-4 on the season. The institution has expressed its deep concern for Del Rio’s condition and has acknowledged the gravity of the situation. Del Rio thanked Wisconsin for the chance to work with such great players and coaches, but he knew that the squad needed a break to finish the season well.
This episode illustrates the persistent problem that prominent coaches have with keeping their professional demeanour in all aspects of their careers. In order to enhance their performance in the Big Ten Conference, Wisconsin will need to negotiate this change as they look ahead to their next games.
